Cane Navigator Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support educational and professional goals
  • Curricular planning
  • Provide registration overrides and permissions, course substitutions, holds, prerequisite checks
  • Help you track your degree progress
  • Reinforce academic policies and procedures
  • Academic interventions
  • Facilitate referrals & follow-ups
  • Connect to social, health, wellness, resources and services

Finding Your Cane Navigator:

All undergraduate students are assigned one Cane Navigator embedded in their primary school or college to support students with all of their academic planning needs, including additional majors and minors outside of a student's primary school or college. The Cane Navigator may need to consult their colleagues in other departments on occasion, however, the goal is for students to not have to seek this guidance from multiple different Cane Navigator teams across the University.

If you are unsure of who your assigned Cane Navigator is, please check CaneLink or Navigate for your student success team assignments. The directions below will show you how to view this information.

Inquiries Regarding Your Advising Experience

Michael Stokes

Executive Director, Student Success & Navigation

If you're unable to resolve your inquiry with the respective Associate Director, Director, or Executive Director within each school or college department, Mr. Stokes is available to work with the Cane Navigation leaders to look into your inquiry. Please start with the leader of the respective department first, as they likely will be able to address your inquiry more quickly.
