Acadermic advisors are assigned and visible to students in both CaneLink and Navigate. In Navigate, you can view your success team, which may include additional program or resource advisors as well.
Academic advisors use Navigate to manage their advising appointments. There are periods of the semester, such as during add/drop or registration weeks, however, that advisors only see students on a drop-in basis. Please check with your school or college if you do not see advisor availability in Navigate. (insert video)
The University of Miami Academic Bulletin contains academic program curricular requirements as well as academic policies and processes. All students should be familiar with information in the Acadeimc Bulletin. When reviewing the Academic Bulletin for curricular requirements, it is important to make sure you are looking at the bulletin year for the academic year that you started attending the University of Miami. The default landing for the Academic Bulletin is the current academic year. For students who started at UM in Fall 2022, for example, you would look for the 2022-2023 Academic Bulletin, which can be accessed by clicking "Previous Bulletin Archives" in the side navigation panel.
The Cognates Program comprises the Areas of Knowledge component of the University of Miami's framework for General Education. Students fulfill the Areas of Knowledge requirement by selecting and completing a cognate in the three areas of the university curriculum: A cognate requires a minimum of at least three courses, for at least nine credit hours. A major, minor, thematic cognate, or an individualized cognate will satisfy the requirement.
The new Degree Planner in CaneLink will be available for all degree seeking students by the beginning of September 2023. Visit the CaneLink Experience for Students websites to learn more.
