  • 1. Check your UM email for instructions from your Transitional Guide

    • You will receive important communications to your UM inbox, including instructions from your Transitional Guide about how to schedule your appointment.
      • Be sure to check your email regularly for updates.

  • 2. Complete the UMX Modules

    • Before attending your appointment, you must complete UMX Modules 1 - 4 in your "UMX-100" course in Blackboard.

  • 3. Transferring with under 30 credits?

    • Students who have completed less than 30 credits since graduating high school will have applied as test-optional or have included their official SAT/ACT scores for admission. Please note that if you are currently enrolled in courses, these do not count toward the 30-credit requirement. Review the official test optional policy.
      • If you have requested that your scores be reviewed for admission, make sure the University of Miami has received your official scores. Self-reported scores will not suffice for course placement.
      • Test Codes for UM:
        • ACT Code: 0760
        • SAT Code: 5815
      •  If you have applied as a test-optional student (you have requested your test scores NOT be reviewed for admission), take the ALEKS assessment before scheduling your meeting.

  • 4. Submit your official transcripts and official test credits earned

    • Submit final transcripts reflecting grades awarded for all college coursework completed prior to admission to UM.
    • If you received college credit through test scores, please send test scores from the official testing agency to UM directly.
      • Test credits accepted at your previous institution may not transfer to UM, as credits will be given according to UM test standards.
      • All AP, IB, AICE, or CLEP examination scores must be received by UM from the official testing agency so that you can be enrolled into the correct classes.

  • 5. Review your transfer credit evaluation

    • Log into CaneLink, and under the “admission” tab, open the “transfer credit” link. Any credit posted as a 100t (accepted credits, but with no UM equivalency), will have to be submitted for evaluation through MATES. For more information about transfer credits, click here.
      • To get started, and to ensure you are ready for your meeting, collect all the course syllabi associated with these courses. Your Transitional Guide can help you submit these courses for evaluation if you need assistance.

  • 6. Check your technology

    • Use a laptop or PC: Your guide will share important information on the screen and a phone screen is too small for this appointment. In many instances your Transitional Guide will ask you to share your screen during the appointment to walk through the registration process.
      • Ensure that your computer has the appropriate permissions enabled for Zoom screen sharing.
    • Make sure that your microphone and camera are working properly.
    • Find a quiet space that will allow you to focus on the conversation and avoid distractions.

  • 7. Browse academic planning resources
