First-year can be overwhelming, but we are here to make sure you feel supported!
GPAim is an early-semester program designed to connect first-year students with the right support — before small challenges become big ones.

GPAim is a proactive outreach and support program exclusively for first-year students at the University of Miami. It's designed to help you recalibrate early, build strong academic habits, and stay connected to the resources that matter — all during your first year.

GPAim is designed specifically for first-year students who may be experiencing one or more of the following:

Area of Concern What It Might Look Like
Academic performance Early grades are not reflecting your effort
At-risk progress report(s) A professor submitted a progress report because they are concerned about your progress in a course
Survey responses  You've indicated uncertainty about returning or finishing, or requested help in an early survey
You don't have to be failing to benefit from our support. Many students are simply navigating their first semester and could use a structured check-in and a connection to support and resources avaialble to help them succeed.

If you're invited to schedule a success planning check-in meeting, you can expect:

  • A non-judgmental, confidential conversation with a Success Advocate
  • A chance to reflect on what's working and what isn't
  • Help identifying concrete next steps — from tutoring referrals to course options
  • A personalized success plan you help design
  • A follow-up check-in to see how things are going

Frequently Asked Questions

Open All Tabs
  • How will I know if I'm in the GPAim program?

You may receive an email, text, or phone call from a Success Advocate during the fall or spring semesters of your first year. You can also connect with us directly at any time.

  • Is participation required?

GPAim outreach is proactive — we reach out to you. While participation is strongly encouraged, it is not mandatory. However, responding early gives you the most options.

  • Will this affect my academic record?

No. GPAim is a support program, not an academic standing action. There is no notation on your transcript.

  • What if I'm doing okay but want to be proactive?

You're welcome to reach out on your own. GPAim is for any first-year student who wants support — not just those who are struggling. You can also check-out these resources.

  • What happens after GPAim?

At the end of the semester, your Success Advocate will help you identify the right next steps — whether that's continuing with a check-in, connecting to GPAid, or simply knowing you're on track.
